TROUT FISHING:

Brown trout fishing

Brown Trout is the fish species officially dedicated to the Province of Central Finland, and also the most "eligible" catch.

Other fish than Brown Trout include specimen are grayling and landlocked salmon.

For the wild brown trout we practice catch and release.

A century has passed since the rapids of Central Finland were referred as "fisherman's paradise" in an English travel brochure.A lot has happened in 100 years but the rapids in Central Finland are still at the top of the fishermen dreams.

We specialized in trout fishing throughout the year in these legendary rapids of Central Finland.

At the rapids the most common fishing methods are fly fishing and spinning:

Both the fishing waters and fish in Central Finland are of "medium" size, and therefore you should avoid using too robust gear in order not to risk not fully enjoying your fishing experience. The most common gear for fly fishing here is floating line; AFTMA 4 to 7, and rods about 9 feet long.

The best flies resemble the various developmental phases of the caddis fly, and lures should resemble small vendace, roach, perch and bullhead. Also spin fishing requires only light-weight equipment, a 6 to 8-foot rod, a max. 0.25 mm line plus a collection of smallish baits like spinners, spoons and wobblers in the lure box.

If you don`t want to bring your own tackle with you, that would not be a problem, we can always offer all necessary equipment for you to use.

KEITELE - PÄIJÄNNE RAPIDS

In spite of its wild nature most of the Keitele - Päijänne rapids are easily accessible from Helsinki within four hours` drive and from Jyväskylä within 35 minutes drive or from the nearest airport within 20 minutes.

Rautalampi waterway is also connected to Northern Lake Päijänne. It consists of several large streams and rapids like Keskisenkoski and Äyskoski. Most of the waters in the area are not open for fishing, because they are protected spawning grounds.

Excellent location between the two large lakes, Keitele and Päijänne, guarantees a rich stock of fish in the area. The most common and prized fish at the rapids are brown trout, wild and stocked averaging 1-2 kg ( 2 – 4,5lb) but each year some bigger fish are hooked. There is also good sized grayling in these waters.

The fishing area includes: Kapeenkoski -, Keskisenkoski -, Kuusaankoski -, and Äyskoski rapids.

Length of the fishing sections are  about 0,5 - 1,5km km and the width ranges from 15 metres up to 70 metres.

VIITASAARI RAPIDS

Viitasaari rapids are located  from Helsinki within five hours` drive and from Jyväskylä within hour minutes drive or from the nearest airport and Keitele-Päijänne rapids within 40 minutes.
